Professional Dispositions

Self Assessment & Reflection

Over the semester, I found growth in all of these areas. With my past teaching experience in studios, guest classes, elementary schools, middle schools, and collegiate level dance spaces; I utilized what I knew about professionalism and leadership to drive my growth in each category. Due to my experience as a creator, dancer, choreographer, and teacher I feel the most comfortable in and exude strength in the categories of "Initiative and Dependability" and "Collegiality and Responsiveness". Dance allows me to use creativity as a lead for taking initiative, working effectively, and advocating for myself. It has given me experience in how to effectively collaborate with and respect others, how to be open-minded and to be proactive in my work. One dispositional area I want to focus on  even more in the future is in the "Professional Behaviors" category especially if I am working at a location farther from the town I live in again and when I am teaching students closer to my age. Since Greeley Central was a bit of a drive for me, I had problems a couple times with making it exactly on time due to traffic, accidents, or weather and needing to plan that with more excess time then I think is important from now on. Also, since the students are closer to my age, many forgot I was still in a teacher role and used profanity more often and felt more open to telling me aspects of their personal lives that would be things they would share with a friend and not a teacher. In the future, I want to prepare even more for any kind of travel distance and be prepared to set a clear boundary that I am the teacher so students understand how they should act as well. All of these dispositions provide me with effective and professional practices that will allow me to be the strongest teacher that I can be not only for myself but for the learning environment and overall social and emotional health of my students. I will be utilizing these practices to show up as a confident leader in all teaching and leadership forms as an instructor, performer, creator, and artist.
